PM Shehbaz Sharif Hails Progress in Islamabad MoU Talks

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Monday that discussions under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were conducted in a positive and constructive atmosphere, yielding encouraging progress. In a post on X, he confirmed that the first high-level committee meeting under the MoU framework concluded successfully in Bürgenstock, Switzerland.

Key Outcomes of the Talks

The prime minister stated that the parties agreed on a roadmap toward a final deal within 60 days, the establishment of a high-level committee to provide political oversight, and the commencement of further technical talks. He commended the leadership of both the United States and Iran for their continued commitment to constructive engagement and thanked all brotherly and friendly countries for their valuable support in advancing this historic process.

Gratitude to Qatar and Switzerland

Shehbaz Sharif expressed particular gratitude to Qatar for its critical support in creating the conditions necessary for these negotiations to move forward. He also thanked the Swiss government for its facilitation in hosting the talks. The prime minister paid special tribute to Field Marshal Asim Munir, whose untiring efforts made these talks a success, stating that his dedication, commitment, and perseverance are commendable and without which there would have been no progress.

Diplomatic Efforts Recognized

He also extended warm compliments and heartfelt gratitude to Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar for his diplomatic efforts along with his team at the Foreign Office. The prime minister deeply appreciated the hard work of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who contributed immensely to the success of these talks. He reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to continue playing its honest and sincere role in advancing dialogue and diplomacy towards a peaceful and lasting resolution of the prevailing global situation.

Departure from Switzerland

Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz Sharif departed for Pakistan after concluding his visit to Switzerland. At Zurich Airport, senior Swiss officials and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Switzerland, Marghoob Saleem Butt, bid farewell to the prime minister, according to a press release from the PM Office Media Wing. The prime minister and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, participated in high-level talks on June 21 at Burgenstock, Switzerland, regarding the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
