Islamabad Police have arrested three men, including the father of a 19-year-old woman, in connection with an alleged honour killing that investigators say was disguised as an accidental electrocution before the victim was hastily buried in an attempt to conceal the crime.
The victim, identified as Bushra, was allegedly murdered during the night of May 20–21 in the Bani Gala area of the federal capital. According to police, her body was buried shortly afterwards without any formal examination. The case surfaced following a tip-off received by investigators, who were directed to a freshly dug grave in a local cemetery. Acting on the information, police launched an inquiry and subsequently registered a case at Bani Gala Police Station on May 26 under Sections 302 (murder), 311, 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Family Dishonour Motive
Investigators allege that Bushra had previously left her family home with a man identified as Usman. Upon her return, family members allegedly viewed her actions as a matter of dishonour and conspired to kill her. Police say the accused sought to cover up the murder by informing local residents that Bushra had died after suffering an electric shock. Her burial was reportedly arranged immediately in an effort to prevent scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding her death.
Investigation Challenges and Breakthrough
The investigation initially faced significant challenges owing to the absence of eyewitnesses and the swift burial of the victim. Islamabad Capital Territory Police subsequently employed a combination of Safe City surveillance footage, human intelligence and forensic analysis to reconstruct the sequence of events and identify those allegedly involved.
Suspects in Custody
Police have arrested Zahir Shah, the victim’s father; Asad Khan, her former husband; and Pir Muhammad, Khan’s father. All three suspects remain in custody. According to investigators, evidence gathered during the inquiry linked the suspects to the killing and the subsequent attempt to conceal it. The case has now been forwarded to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings, while police say additional aspects of the investigation remain under review.
