Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh met with Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa on Wednesday at the People's Palace in Damascus, where they discussed the latest regional developments. Al-Sheikh reaffirmed Palestinian support for Syria's territorial unity and reviewed the situation in the Gaza Strip, the occupied West Bank, and Jerusalem, according to the Wafa news agency.
High-Level Meeting in Damascus
The meeting, attended by several Palestinian and Syrian officials, marks the second-highest-ranking Palestinian visit to Syria since the fall of Bashar Assad's regime in December 2024. President Mahmoud Abbas had earlier visited Damascus in April 2025, congratulating Syrians on their country's liberation.
Neutral Stance During Civil War
The Palestinian Authority maintained a neutral position on Syrian affairs throughout the civil war from 2011 to 2024, aiming to protect thousands of Palestinian refugees from the conflict's consequences.
Delegation Members
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani attended the meeting. The Palestinian delegation included Chairman of the Palestinian National Council Rawhi Fattouh, Fatah Central Committee member Samir Al-Rifai, and Chief of Military Intelligence Majed Faraj.
