Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari held a high-level meeting with a delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjayev, in Islamabad on Tuesday. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in trade, energy, and regional connectivity.
Key Areas of Discussion
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of enhancing economic cooperation. Bilawal Bhutto highlighted Pakistan's commitment to deepening relations with Central Asian countries, especially Uzbekistan. He stressed the need for increased trade volume and investment opportunities between the two nations.
Energy Cooperation
Energy cooperation was a major topic, with discussions on potential projects in hydropower and renewable energy. The Uzbek delegation expressed interest in collaborating on energy infrastructure and technology exchange. Bilawal noted that such partnerships could help address Pakistan's energy needs and promote sustainable development.
Regional Connectivity
The meeting also explored ways to improve regional connectivity through transport and transit routes. Both sides agreed to work on facilitating trade via the Trans-Afghan Railway project, which would link Central Asia with South Asia. Bilawal underscored the significance of this project for economic integration and stability in the region.
Cultural and Diplomatic Ties
In addition to economic matters, the leaders discussed cultural exchanges and diplomatic coordination. Bilawal appreciated Uzbekistan's support on regional issues and reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to multilateral cooperation. The Uzbek delegation invited Bilawal to visit Tashkent for further talks.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to form joint working groups to follow up on the discussed initiatives. Both sides expressed optimism about the future of Pakistan-Uzbekistan relations, aiming for a comprehensive partnership that benefits the people of both countries.
