Settlers Enter Holy Site Amid Tensions

Dozens of Israeli settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem on Wednesday under the protection of Israeli police, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA. Citing the Jerusalem Governorate, WAFA reported that the settlers entered the compound, toured its courtyards, and performed Talmudic rituals while Israeli police secured the area.

Significance of Al-Aqsa Mosque

Al-Aqsa Mosque is the third-holiest site in Islam, revered by Muslims worldwide. Jews refer to the site as the Temple Mount, asserting it was the location of two ancient Jewish temples. The site has been a flashpoint for Israeli-Palestinian tensions for decades.

Palestinian Concerns Over Judaization

Palestinians accuse Israel of escalating efforts to Judaize occupied East Jerusalem, including the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, aiming to erase its Arab and Islamic identity. The Palestinian Authority views East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state, in line with international resolutions that reject Israel's occupation of the city since 1967 and its annexation in 1980.
