Peshawar – Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday urged collective efforts to counter hate speech and promote tolerance, warning that divisive narratives and misinformation pose a growing threat to social harmony and national unity.
Governor's Message on International Day for Countering Hate Speech
In a message issued on the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, the governor said Pakistan’s cultural, religious and ethnic diversity was one of its greatest strengths and must be protected through mutual respect, inclusion and equal opportunities for all citizens.
Constitutional Guarantees and Islamic Teachings
He said the Constitution guaranteed equal rights without discrimination and stressed that upholding these principles was essential for building a peaceful and inclusive society. Faisal Kundi noted that the teachings of Islam rejected hatred, extremism and prejudice, while encouraging peace, compassion and respect for human dignity.
He said elected representatives, media organisations, educators, religious scholars and civil society all had a shared responsibility to discourage divisive rhetoric and promote understanding and dialogue.
Responsible Use of Digital Platforms
Expressing concern over the growing influence of digital platforms, the governor called for the responsible use of social media and warned against the spread of misinformation, hate-driven content and online polarisation. He said digital platforms should be used to strengthen national unity, raise public awareness and encourage constructive engagement, particularly among young people.
Reaffirming his commitment to an inclusive society, the governor urged all sections of society to reject intolerance and work together to promote the values of peace, respect and coexistence.
