Canada delivered a stunning 6-0 victory over Qatar in their Group B match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at BC Place Stadium. The win marked a historic performance for the Canadian side.
First Half Dominance
Canada started strong, with Cyle Larin opening the scoring in the 16th minute. Jonathan David doubled the lead in the 29th minute, giving Canada control of the game. Qatar's troubles deepened in the 33rd minute when Homam Al-Amin received a red card. Just before halftime, David scored again from a Larin header in the 45+3rd minute, making it 3-0.
Second Half Chaos
Qatar's situation worsened early in the second half when Assim Madibo was sent off in the 53rd minute for a hard tackle on Ismael Kone. Kone suffered a gruesome left shin fracture and was stretchered off, ending his World Cup prematurely.
Galvanized by the injury, Canada pressed on. Nathan Saliba, Kone's replacement, scored a free kick in the 64th minute and dedicated it to his teammate. Mohamed Manai's own goal in the 75th minute made it 5-0. Jonathan David completed his hat-trick in the 90+2nd minute, becoming the first player to score a World Cup hat-trick on home soil since Geoff Hurst in 1966.
Historic Achievement
Canada became the first team from outside Europe and South America to score five or more goals in a World Cup match. The result lifted Canada to the top of Group B, while Qatar sank to the bottom.
