Motorway Police Issues Travel Advisory Amid Heavy Rain Forecast

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has advised commuters and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel after the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast heavy rainfall and strong winds across most parts of the country, including the Hazara region, on July 7 and 8. The advisory comes a day after torrential rains lashed various parts of Hazara, disrupting traffic on the GT Road and motorway due to flooding, reduced visibility, and other weather-related hazards.

Safety Precautions for Motorists

According to the Motorway Police spokesperson, motorists should exercise extreme caution while travelling as heavy rainfall may make national highways and motorways slippery and significantly reduce visibility. The spokesperson urged drivers to reduce speed, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and keep headlights switched on while driving in the rain. Travellers heading towards northern and mountainous areas have also been warned of the risk of landslides and falling rocks.

Avoid Unnecessary Travel and Check Conditions

The Motorway Police advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel to such areas and to check the latest weather and road conditions before starting their journey. The spokesperson further warned that seasonal streams and nullahs may experience flash flooding and urged motorists and tourists not to attempt crossing floodwaters under any circumstances. Drivers were also reminded to refrain from using mobile phones while driving and to remain fully attentive to the road.
