Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday announced that the formal signing ceremony of the US-Iran understanding will take place in Geneva on June 19 and will be hosted by Pakistan. He made the announcement early Monday, stating that the United States and Iran have reached an agreement following intensive negotiations, with both sides declaring an immediate and permanent end to military operations across all fronts, including in Lebanon.
Historic Milestone Achieved
Opening his address at the National Assembly, the Prime Minister said, "Today, by the grace of Allah, the world has crossed a historic milestone." Describing the development as a turning point after a period of global tension, he stated, "After the night of war, the sun of peace has risen." He noted that after three months of intense challenges, this development has been achieved. The Prime Minister confirmed that the agreement includes an end to military operations.
Congratulatory Remarks
The Prime Minister congratulated members of the House and the wider international community, saying, "I congratulate the Pakistani nation and the entire international community from the depths of my heart." PM Shehbaz called it a matter of collective pride and said Pakistan played a constructive role in supporting diplomatic engagement. The Iranian Ambassador witnessed the proceedings of the House.
Acknowledgment of Political Support
Shehbaz Sharif thanked political leadership across parties, including the ruling and opposition benches, stating he received full cooperation throughout the process. He expressed gratitude to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his guidance, as well as to President Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and other political figures including Aleem Khan, Chaudhry Associates, Dr. Mukul Siddiqui, and Sardar Khan. He emphasized that all political leaders deserved appreciation for their role.
Victory of Peace and Diplomacy
The Prime Minister said the agreement was not only between the two countries but "a victory of peace and dialogue." He called it a "success of diplomacy, and the failure of war." He stated that Pakistan's civil and military leadership played an important role in supporting peace efforts, including Field Marshal Asim Munir and National Security Adviser Lt Gen Asim Malik.
International Recognition
The Prime Minister praised international leaders, including US President Donald Trump, Iran's leadership including Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, and other members of negotiating teams. He acknowledged Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for playing a key role, along with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and China's President Xi Jinping for supporting diplomatic efforts.
Economic Impact and Future Plans
The Prime Minister said Pakistan supported negotiations through its diplomatic channels and foreign ministry teams. He noted that the crisis had placed global economic pressure, including on Pakistan, but timely decisions helped manage the impact and protect citizens from severe inflationary shocks. He urged unity among federal and provincial governments and political forces, stating that Pakistan would work to ensure that the benefits of improved global conditions reached ordinary citizens. Concluding his address, he said Pakistan would continue to play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability.
Defence Minister's Remarks
Earlier in the session, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif described the peace agreement between Iran and the United States, scheduled to be signed on Friday, as a major diplomatic achievement for Pakistan. Speaking in the National Assembly, he said that the country's leadership has, through its vision, wisdom, and diplomatic efforts, enhanced Pakistan's prestige and standing on the international stage. He described the recognition and respect earned by Pakistan as unparalleled, calling it one of the most significant achievements in the nation's 78-year history.
Diplomatic and Military Success
He emphasized that the struggle waged by Pakistan on the diplomatic front was aimed at promoting peace. He recalled that Pakistan had also secured victory in a war fought on the military front almost a year ago. He expressed confidence that Pakistan would also achieve success on the economic front following its successes on the military and diplomatic fronts. The Defence Minister thanked the United States for taking a major step toward peace and for recognizing the injustices faced by Iran, indicating that the agreement addresses them. He also congratulated the Iranian leadership and people for demonstrating unity during a highly sensitive time.

At the outset, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq congratulated the entire Pakistani nation on the country's diplomatic achievement in helping mediate peace between Iran and the United States.
