PM Orders Embassies to Boost Overseas Jobs for Pakistanis

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed Pakistani embassies abroad to step up efforts to identify and secure employment opportunities for the country's workforce, emphasizing the government's commitment to expanding overseas job prospects for skilled and qualified Pakistanis.

Government Focus on Youth Employment

Chairing a review meeting on youth employment, the premier noted that Pakistan's workforce possessed immense potential and stressed the need to strengthen international outreach to connect skilled workers with global labour markets. He instructed embassies to actively collect and share information on available jobs and required qualifications in host countries.

Vocational Training and Certification

The prime minister directed the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), and the Prime Minister's Youth Programme to ensure that the workforce, particularly young people, receives vocational skills training along with foreign language courses and internationally recognized certifications. He said the government was providing education and skills training in line with international standards to improve the global employability of Pakistan's highly capable workforce.

Meeting with UN Secretary-General Candidate

Separately, candidate for the position of United Nations Secretary-General María Fernanda Espinosa called on the prime minister at the PM House on Monday. While welcoming Espinosa, the premier expressed Pakistan's longstanding commitment to multilateralism and the high significance it has always attached to the United Nations.

He expressed hope that the next UN leadership would uphold the UN Charter, ensure the implementation of Security Council resolutions, respect international law and treaties, and strengthen cooperation among member states to promote global peace and prosperity. Espinosa praised Pakistan's role in recent regional peace efforts and commended its active contribution to the United Nations over the decades. She had previously visited Pakistan in 2019 in her capacity as president of the UN General Assembly.
