PM Shehbaz Accuses India of Covert Tactics to Destabilize Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated on Saturday that India is employing covert tactics and proxies to create instability in Pakistan, seeking to avenge its humiliating defeat in last year's conflict. Speaking at the Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi, the premier emphasized that Pakistan faces multi-faceted security challenges from both international and internal threats.

Accusations Against India

“Our eastern neighbour, having suffered a humiliating setback in the conflict in May last year, has increasingly resorted to covert tactics and the use of proxies in an attempt to undermine the hard-earned peace and stability in our country,” PM Shehbaz said during the passing-out parade of the 125th Midshipmen Course and 33rd Short Service Commission Course.

Security Challenges and Terrorism

Referring to the Afghan insurgency, the prime minister noted, “Our valiant armed forces continue to confront the menace of foreign-sponsored terrorism emanating from our western borders.” He affirmed that the nation stands united with its armed forces and remains resolute in defeating enemy designs while pursuing peace, dialogue, and diplomacy to resolve outstanding disputes.

Regional Peace Efforts

PM Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan's role as a peacemaker, citing the historic signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, facilitated by Pakistan's mediation. He also praised Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir for his efforts toward regional peace. Commenting on Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's recent visit, the premier called it a manifestation of strong brotherly ties and an acknowledgment of Pakistan's role in promoting regional peace.

Maritime Security and Naval Modernization

The prime minister stressed the importance of maritime security for the global economy and supply chains, stating that freedom of navigation is now an absolute necessity. He reiterated the government's commitment to strengthening the navy as a potent force capable of ensuring national defence and acting as a stabilising force in the maritime region. He noted that the navy achieved tangible operational results during Operations Marka-e-Haq and Bunyanum Marsoos against India.

Kashmir and Palestine Causes

PM Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan's unwavering commitment to the just causes of Kashmir and Palestine, advocating for their rights on international platforms.

Address to Cadets

Addressing the cadets, the premier emphasized the profound transformation in the maritime domain and the need for modernizing naval capabilities, particularly in artificial intelligence and unmanned systems. He congratulated the cadets, saying, “The rank you wear on your shoulders today carries immense responsibility. As you embark on this noble profession, always remember: calm waters do not test a sailor nor do fair winds define a captain. It is the rough seas and strong winds that test one’s mettle.”

International Participation

Cadets from Turkey, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Iraq, and Djibouti also passed out during the ceremony.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Shehbaz arrived in Karachi earlier in the morning and was welcomed by Sindh Governor Nehal Hashmi and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and Information Minister Ataullah Tarrar accompanied the premier on the visit.
