Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday chaired a meeting of the Provincial Apex Committee under the National Action Plan (NAP) in Quetta to review the overall law and order and security situation in Balochistan amid a recent surge in terrorist attacks. The prime minister arrived in Quetta on a one-day visit and was received by Balochistan Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, and senior civil and military officials.
High-Level Briefing on Security and Counterterrorism Operations
During the high-level meeting, officials briefed the premier on the prevailing security situation in the province, ongoing counterterrorism operations, and measures being taken to strengthen law enforcement and maintain peace. The meeting was attended by Field Marshal and Chief of Defence Forces Syed Asim Munir, Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, senior military and civilian officials, and heads of law enforcement agencies. Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs Senator Rana Sanaullah also participated in the meeting.
Recent Terrorist Attacks and Response
The prime minister's visit comes a day after Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that 42 people, including 11 soldiers, 27 police personnel, and four civilians, were martyred in three separate attacks carried out by Fitna al Khwarij (FAK) and Fitna Al-Hindustan (FAH) in Balochistan. According to the military spokesperson, security forces launched intelligence-based and follow-up operations after the attacks, killing 54 terrorists. He also alleged that India was orchestrating terrorist activities in Balochistan, adding that Pakistani security forces responded swiftly and effectively to the incidents.
Commitment to Peace and Stability
The Apex Committee meeting underscored the government's resolve to eradicate terrorism and ensure lasting peace in Balochistan. The participants reaffirmed their commitment to the National Action Plan and vowed to continue coordinated efforts against militant groups. The prime minister also appreciated the sacrifices of security forces and law enforcement personnel in maintaining security.
