Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met a high-level Iranian delegation in Bürgenstock ahead of the formal start of bilateral talks between the two sides. The meeting included initial discussions on matters of mutual interest, with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also in attendance.
Iranian Delegation Composition
The Iranian delegation comprised Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. The talks are part of broader diplomatic efforts involving Pakistan, Iran, and the United States.
Previous Meeting with US Vice President
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir had met US Vice President JD Vance. The US delegation included Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. During that meeting, Vice President Vance acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating understanding between Iran and the United States. In response to a question, Vance enthusiastically said, “We love Pakistan.”
Context of the Talks
The meetings come amid ongoing diplomatic engagements, including technical-level talks under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding scheduled for the following day in Switzerland. The Iranian President also stated that all clauses of the peace agreement with the US are in Iran’s favor.
