Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Tuesday that Pakistan will continue to play its due role in promoting lasting peace in the region. He made the remarks during delegation-level talks with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian in Islamabad.
Brotherly ties between Pakistan and Iran
Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan and Iran are like brothers and that Islamabad would never let Tehran down in the true spirit of brotherhood. He commended the resilience of the Iranian people and leadership during the crisis.
The prime minister highlighted the role of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his outstanding contribution, which led to the ceasefire and the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding by Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump. Shehbaz Sharif said he had signed the MoU in his capacity as mediator.
Thanks to brotherly countries
Shehbaz Sharif also thanked the brotherly countries of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt for their role in the process. He expressed his pleasure at welcoming the Iranian President and his delegation to Pakistan at his invitation.
Strengthening bilateral relations
The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to strengthen bilateral relations across all spheres, including economic cooperation, trade, investment, and reconstruction. He said Pakistan and Iran would work together for their mutual benefit by leveraging their respective strengths.
He added that the two countries would jointly promote peace, stability, and prosperity not only in the region but across the Middle East, the Gulf, and South Asia.
CCD police shootout in Chiniot
In a separate incident, three suspected robbers were killed in a shootout with CCD police in Chiniot.
