Ukraine's military announced on Monday that it had successfully struck a facility in Russia's Voronezh region that produces electronics for missiles. The attack, which used air-launched cruise missiles, targeted a plant described by the Ukrainian General Staff as a critical component of Russia's defense production. The facility is located less than 200 kilometers (125 miles) from the Ukrainian border.
Details of the Attack
The Ukrainian General Staff stated on Telegram that the plant manufactures electronics used in Russian missiles, particularly for the Iskander tactical missile system. The strike represents the latest in a series of long-range Ukrainian attacks aimed at crippling Russia's defense industry.
Casualties and Damage
Voronezh Regional Governor Alexander Gusev reported heavy losses, confirming five fatalities and dozens injured. "We have sustained extremely heavy losses today. As a result of a missile attack on the city, five people were killed," Gusev wrote on Telegram. He added that several dozen citizens sought medical help, though most were treated and released. The attack also damaged 10 apartment buildings and six private homes.
Air Defense Response
Earlier, Governor Gusev stated that Russian air defenses had intercepted several high-speed targets over the city. Video footage verified by Reuters showed large plumes of black smoke rising from at least two locations within the factory, captured from a car driving past the scene.
Ukrainian Involvement
Robert Brovdi, commander of Ukraine's drone forces, confirmed that his units participated in the operation alongside other military branches. The coordinated strike underscores Ukraine's ongoing efforts to degrade Russia's military capabilities through precision long-range attacks.
