The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has been convened for a crucial meeting over the weekend, scheduled just ahead of the federal budget. Sources revealed on Thursday that a diverse array of financial and development-related proposals, involving billions of rupees, will come under scrutiny during this session.
Key Financial Proposals on Agenda
Officials confirmed that the meeting will primarily focus on approving substantial grants and additional funds across multiple sectors. These decisions are expected to shape key fiscal and development priorities before the new budget is announced. Among the most significant proposals is a grant exceeding Rs7 billion under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) programme, which will be thoroughly discussed.
Specific Allocations Under Consideration
- Pakistan Land Ports Authority: A sum of Rs528 million is being considered for this authority.
- National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA): An additional Rs150 million is expected to be approved.
- Security-Related Funding: Over Rs410 million has been proposed for payments linked to the Reko Diq project, and Rs690 million has been requested for security arrangements connected to the Islamabad peace talks.
- Development Funds: The transfer of funds under the Karachi and Hyderabad package, as well as the redistribution of special programme funds for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, will be deliberated.
- Pakistan Mint Upgradation: A proposal worth Rs1.3 billion for upgrading the Pakistan Mint is on the agenda.
- PSO Financing: A syndicated financing facility for Pakistan State Oil (PSO) will be considered.
- Oil Refinery Upgrade: An agreement related to an oil refinery upgrade project will also be reviewed.
In addition to these items, supplementary grants and additional allocations for various ministries are expected to be approved as the government moves to finalise key fiscal and development decisions before the upcoming budget announcement.
