FCC Dismisses Rape Petition, Questions Marriage to Accused

The Federal Capital Commission (FCC) on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by Saima Shehzadi, a woman who alleged she had been subjected to rape. A three-member bench headed by Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi heard the case. During the proceedings, Justice Rizvi remarked that if the woman had been raped, why was she subsequently married to the same person. Defence counsel responded that the accused had allegedly married the woman in an attempt to conceal the incident. During the hearing, Justice Rozi Khan remarked that such stories were extraordinary and more commonly seen in films. The bench dismissed the petition after hearing arguments from both sides.
