ISLAMABAD - Islamabad police have claimed an overall 30 percent reduction in crime in the federal capital during the first four months of the ongoing year. They said Islamabad police continued impartial and effective actions against criminal elements, leading to a significant and historic reduction in the crime rate.
“As a result of effective measures taken during the first four months of 2026, overall crime decreased by 36 percent compared to 2025, while a 50 percent reduction was recorded in April alone.”
A police spokesman on Thursday said that a total of 447 members of 192 criminal gangs involved in robbery, street crimes, car theft, and motorcycle theft were arrested. Stolen property worth more than Rs120 million was also recovered from the arrested accused.
Similarly, during the first four months of 2026, robbery incidents saw a notable decline, with 98 fewer cases reported compared to 2025. Shop robbery incidents also significantly decreased, with 33 fewer cases registered than last year.
Incidents of motorcycle snatching also declined noticeably. In the first four months of 2025, 129 cases were reported, whereas during the same period in 2026, the number dropped to 92. Likewise, incidents of street robbery and mobile phone snatching decreased by 185 cases. In 2025, total 377 such cases were reported, while in 2026 the number dropped to 192.
Car theft incidents also saw a substantial decline. During the first four months of 2025, 151 car theft cases were reported, whereas this year the number decreased to only 34, reflecting a reduction of 117 cases. Motorcycle theft incidents also showed a significant decrease. In 2025, 1,001 cases were reported, while in 2026 the number dropped to 642, indicating a reduction of 359 cases.
The spokesperson said during the first four months of 2026, Islamabad Police traced more than eight high-profile cases in less than 24 hours. These included the murder case of renowned businessman Mian Aamir, a blind murder case during a robbery in the jurisdiction of Koral Police Station, and a kidnapping followed by murder case within the limits of Kohsar police station.
“More than 400 proclaimed offenders and notorious criminals with previous records were also arrested during the current year.”
In a separate development, Senator Sherry Rehman called for a humane approach in anti-encroachment operations, urging authorities to ensure that such actions do not disproportionately affect vulnerable communities.
