The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have formally requested an additional Rs8 billion from the provincial government to support ongoing development and security projects in the merged tribal districts. This request was made through an official letter submitted to the provincial Home Department, emphasizing the need to ensure that all ongoing schemes are completed within the stipulated timelines.
Urgent Need for Additional Funding
Police officials have highlighted that the extra funding is crucial for strengthening the operational capabilities and infrastructure of both the police force and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in the merged districts. According to the letter, most of the funds allocated under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the 2025-26 fiscal year have already been utilized. A total of Rs16.34 billion was initially approved for police and CTD development projects in these areas. Out of this amount, Rs7 billion was released during the current financial year, of which nearly Rs6.76 billion has already been spent on ongoing schemes.
Security Concerns Amid Rising Terrorism
The department has warned that an additional Rs8 billion is required to complete the projects within the prescribed timeline and to further improve security infrastructure in areas facing elevated terrorist threats. This request comes at a time when there has been a notable increase in terrorist incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, prompting authorities to focus on strengthening law enforcement capabilities and security arrangements in vulnerable regions.
The additional funds are expected to be used for various development initiatives, including the construction of new police stations, upgrading of existing facilities, procurement of modern equipment, and enhancement of CTD operations. The police department has stressed that without this extra allocation, many critical projects may face delays, potentially compromising security in the merged districts.
