Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held an interaction with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday, during which Wang Yi congratulated Pakistan's leadership on successfully conducting the mediation process and signing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Chinese Praise for Pakistan's Peace Efforts
The Chinese foreign minister praised Pakistan's untiring efforts for peace and stability, marked by continuous outreach, active mediation and sustained engagement, according to a news release from the DPM's Office. Dar briefed his Chinese counterpart on developments following the first round of talks in Burgenstock and the establishment of a high-level committee to supervise implementation of the Islamabad MoU.
Working Groups and Timelines
Dar informed Wang that three working groups had been constituted to focus on nuclear issues, sanctions, and monitoring and dispute resolution, with the objective of facilitating a comprehensive agreement within 60 days. He thanked Beijing for its support to the peace initiative, particularly President Xi Jinping's four-point peace proposal and the jointly developed five-point Pakistan-China peace initiative.
Commitment to Negotiated Settlement
Wang Yi congratulated Pakistan's leadership on successfully facilitating the talks and praised Islamabad's "continuous outreach, active mediation and sustained engagement" aimed at ending the conflict. The two foreign ministers reaffirmed their commitment to work closely for a negotiated settlement and a permanent end to hostilities.
