LHC Seeks Report on Garbage Burning Near Housing Society

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has sought a report from the Director General of Rescue 1122 regarding pollution caused by the burning of garbage near a private housing society while hearing petitions related to smog control and environmental protection. Justice Shahid Karim presided over the hearing of petitions filed by Haroon Farooq and others.

Judicial Commission Report on Waste Burning

During the proceedings, a member of the Judicial Commission submitted a report concerning pollution caused by waste burning behind Paragon Society. The court was informed that the Environment Department had taken substantial measures to remove the illegal dumping site. Officials stated that department teams have been permanently stationed in the area and that the dumping of waste near Paragon City had been halted immediately.

Court Questions Contractor's Arrest

During the hearing, counsel representing the Punjab government told the court that several FIRs had already been registered against the contractor allegedly involved in the matter. Justice Shahid Karim questioned why the contractor had not yet been arrested and directed authorities to summon him before the court. The judge observed that the contractor should be given a clear warning that such actions would not be tolerated in the future. The court also ordered authorities to obtain an affidavit from the contractor, ensuring that no waste would be dumped at the illegal site again.
