ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has stated that after making progress toward economic stability, the government is now concentrating on improving health, education, skills development, and social protection. He expressed these views during a meeting with a World Bank delegation led by Vice President for Human Development Mamta Murthi, as per the finance ministry.
Youth as a National Strength
Aurangzeb highlighted that Pakistan's young population is a significant asset and emphasized the urgent need to equip them with skills aligned with modern requirements. He stressed that investing in human capital is crucial for sustainable economic growth, enhancing competitiveness, and creating better employment opportunities.
World Bank's Support Acknowledged
The finance minister appreciated the World Bank's continued support for Pakistan's development and reform priorities. He noted that developing the capabilities of the youth and preparing them for the evolving global market is a key component of the government's economic transformation agenda.
Critical Areas for Development
Mamta Murthi stated that progress in areas such as child malnutrition, stunting, access to quality education, and improved healthcare services is essential for long-term development. She assured that the World Bank would continue its support for effective service delivery and achieving measurable outcomes in Pakistan.
Discussions on Key Issues
The meeting covered maternal and child health, nutrition, immunization, early education, population-related challenges, strengthening primary healthcare systems, and the provision of essential medical services. Both sides also explored the potential of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in advancing health, education, and workforce development.
Global Best Practices
The World Bank delegation shared global experiences in technical and vocational training, skills development, and employment-linked programs. Discussions highlighted the importance of stronger industry linkages and greater private sector participation in training initiatives.
Invitation to Global Forum
Murthi invited Pakistan to participate in the Universal Health Coverage global forum, to be held in Japan later this year. At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in health, education, social protection, workforce development, and technology-driven service delivery.
