The government of Pakistan has revised business and commercial closing times nationwide, allowing most shops, markets, and restaurants to remain open later as summer daylight hours lengthen and temperatures rise. According to a notification issued, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the revised timings with immediate effect, partially relaxing restrictions introduced under fuel conservation and austerity measures announced in April.
Revised Schedule
Under the revised schedule, shops, markets, shopping malls, bazaars, departmental stores, grocery outlets, and kiryana stores will close at 9pm on all days of the week, including weekends. This change aims to facilitate businesses and customers during the longer summer days while balancing energy conservation efforts.
Background
The earlier restrictions were part of a broader austerity drive to reduce fuel consumption and manage energy costs. The new timings reflect a pragmatic approach, acknowledging the need for economic activity during peak summer season.
