Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday announced that the upcoming federal budget for fiscal year 2026-27 will include measures aimed at providing relief to the public while advancing the government's export-led growth agenda. Speaking to leading industrialists and prominent business leaders at the Prime Minister House, he reiterated that the government is pursuing an export-led growth strategy, which serves as the central pillar of its economic policy.
Inclusive Economic Measures
The prime minister underscored that steps are being taken to bring the informal economy into the tax net, ensuring a broader revenue base. He welcomed the business leaders, referring to them as Pakistan's ambassadors who represent the country's identity around the world. The meeting was part of ongoing consultations with the business community regarding the upcoming budget and efforts to accelerate overall economic growth.
Stabilizing the Economy
PM Shehbaz Sharif pointed out that business-friendly policies have stabilized the economy and restored the confidence of foreign investors. He emphasized the importance of maintaining this momentum to attract further investment and drive sustainable development.
Strengthening Pakistan-China Cooperation
In a separate meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong at the Prime Minister House, the prime minister stressed the need to expand cooperation in key areas under CPEC 2.0, particularly agriculture, information technology, industries including Special Economic Zones, and mines and minerals. He conveyed his warm regards and best wishes to President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, fondly recalling his productive and substantive meetings with the Chinese leadership during his recent visit to China.
Follow-Up on Key Decisions
While conveying his firm resolve to further strengthen the Pakistan-China All Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, the prime minister emphasized the need to immediately initiate necessary actions to follow up on important decisions taken during his visit to China.
Railway Mega Projects
PM Shehbaz appreciated Pakistan Railways for its efforts in passenger facilitation and the upgradation of railway stations. He directed that investment in freight services and the timely completion of mega projects be prioritized for the long-term and sustainable development of the service. Chairing a meeting to review progress in railway projects, the prime minister stated that a world-class freight service would not only facilitate the transportation of industrial products but also significantly increase the railways' annual revenue.
