The District Litigation Committee of Hyderabad convened under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner-I Gada Hussain Soomro to assess pending court cases involving government interests and improve inter-departmental coordination. The meeting included the spokesperson for the District Attorney General and officers from various government departments.
Detailed Review of Pending Litigation
According to an official handout, participants conducted a thorough examination of pending litigation affecting public interest. They underscored the necessity of stronger coordination among departments when handling legal matters.
Additional Deputy Commissioner-I Gada Hussain Soomro directed all departments to nominate an officer of Grade-17 or above as a focal person. He instructed departments to consult the District Attorney Office before initiating any legal action in court cases and to ensure effective follow-up on cases involving government interests.
Establishment of Joint WhatsApp Group
Soomro announced the creation of a joint WhatsApp group comprising law officers from the District Attorney Office and representatives of relevant departments. This group aims to facilitate prompt communication and effective coordination among stakeholders.
The District Attorney's spokesperson noted that most departments approach the District Attorney Office only after filing cases or during court proceedings. However, effective legal defence requires consultation from the very beginning of a case, along with submission of all relevant documents. More than 6,000 people fled Sudan’s West Darfur following RSF threats, according to a UN agency.
Emphasis on Early Consultation
The spokesperson emphasized that early consultation would enable the formulation of a joint legal strategy and ensure better protection of government interests. The meeting concluded with a commitment to strengthen coordination, timely consultation, and mutual cooperation between the District Attorney Office and all relevant departments. This approach aims to ensure successful prosecution of cases involving government interests and safeguard public assets.
