Jhelum Police Arrest Two Minors in Disturbing Sexual Assault Case of Disabled Girl
In a deeply troubling incident, the Jhelum district police have apprehended two suspects in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl with special needs. The case unfolded in a village under the jurisdiction of the Domeli police station, highlighting serious concerns about juvenile crime and the protection of vulnerable individuals.
Details of the Complaint and Allegations
According to a complaint filed on March 16 by Noor Muhammad, a resident of Gajial village, the victim is his granddaughter, who has an intellectual disability. Noor Muhammad has been caring for his five grandchildren—two daughters and three sons—since his son, Muhammad Ali, separated from his wife five years ago. The children's mother later abandoned them and remarried, leaving the grandfather as their primary guardian.
The complainant stated that on March 5, his granddaughter was allegedly lured to an abandoned house. There, one of the accused assaulted her while the other filmed the act, adding a layer of exploitation to the crime. This incident has sparked outrage and calls for swift justice in the community.
Police Investigation and Legal Actions
Following preliminary inquiries, the police conducted a medical examination of the victim and filed charges under sections 375-A, 367-A, and 292-C of the Pakistan Penal Code. These sections pertain to sexual assault, abduction, and related offenses, underscoring the gravity of the allegations.
Sikandar Gondal, SP Investigations for Jhelum police, confirmed that the suspects, identified as T. P. and M. R., were arrested after a comprehensive investigation aimed at securing physical evidence. District Police Officer Chaudhry Muhammad Shafiq described the case as particularly disturbing, noting that both the victim—a 14-year-old girl with mental disabilities—and the alleged perpetrators are minors under the age of 14.
Ongoing Efforts and Future Steps
DPO Chaudhry Muhammad Shafiq emphasized that the investigation is being conducted without any gaps, with all efforts focused on ensuring convictions through the courts. He added that samples have been sent for DNA analysis to strengthen the evidence against the accused. This step is crucial in building a solid case that can withstand legal scrutiny and deliver justice for the victim.
The case has drawn attention to the need for enhanced protection measures for children with disabilities and stricter enforcement of laws against juvenile offenders. Authorities are urging the public to report such incidents promptly to prevent further harm to vulnerable populations.
