Lahore ATC grants 17-day remand in police attack case

An anti-terrorism court in Lahore has taken decisive action against individuals accused of violent activities, granting police extended custody to further investigate their alleged involvement in attacks on law enforcement.

Court Proceedings and Remand Details

The anti-terrorism court, presided over by Administrative Judge Manzer Ali Gill, made significant rulings on Monday regarding ten suspects linked to a banned religious party. The court approved a 17-day physical remand for five individuals, allowing police to hold them in custody until November 27 for further investigation.

Those remanded to police custody include Muhammad Bilal, Muhammad Tahir, Muhammad Qasim, and Muhammad Khalil. The Shahdara Police presented these suspects before the court and successfully argued for extended remand to continue their investigation into serious charges.

Identification Parade and Evidence

Meanwhile, the court ordered five other suspects to be sent to jail for identification purposes. These individuals - Hafiz Nadeem, Muhammad Rizwan, Muhammad Zahid, Muhammad Sharif, and Muhammad Mahfooz - appeared in court with their faces covered as per standard procedure for identification parades.

The investigating officer informed the court that substantial evidence has been gathered against the accused. Sticks and clubs were recovered from their possession, linking them directly to the violent incidents. The officer detailed that the suspects were actively involved in attacks on police personnel, arson, and rioting.

Legal Charges and Police Action

The case has been formally registered at Shahdara Police Station under serious charges including attempted murder and terrorism. This legal action demonstrates the authorities' firm stance against violence targeting law enforcement personnel.

The court's decision to grant physical remand indicates the seriousness of the allegations and the need for thorough investigation. The November 27 date has been set for the next hearing, when the remanded suspects must be produced before the court again.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts by Lahore authorities to maintain law and order while dealing firmly with elements accused of violence and terrorism-related activities.
