A delegation of the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC), headed by its Chief Executive Officer Chuan Wee Meng, met with the Chief Justice of Pakistan at the Supreme Court in Islamabad on Thursday. The discussions centered on measures to enhance the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) system in the country.
Delegation's Visit and Workshop
The delegation is currently in Pakistan to conduct an Accredited Mediation Skills Workshop and Assessment Programme for judges at the Federal Judicial Academy. Supreme Court Judge Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb also participated in the meeting.
Chief Justice's Remarks on Mediation
During the meeting, the Chief Justice underscored the significance of mediation as a cost-effective and efficient mechanism for resolving disputes. He outlined ongoing reforms aimed at promoting ADR within the justice sector, with a focus on capacity-building, judicial training, and international cooperation to improve mediation practices and reduce the burden of litigation.
SIMC's Support and Cooperation
Mr. Chuan Wee Meng shared SIMC's experience in institutionalising mediation and expressed support for capacity-building initiatives and the exchange of international best practices. Both sides explored avenues for cooperation in mediation training, accreditation, and professional development, reaffirming their commitment to promoting mediation as an effective means of dispute resolution.
