CTD Arrests 36 Terrorists in Major Punjab Security Crackdown

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has announced the successful completion of a large-scale security operation across Punjab, resulting in the arrest of 36 terrorists and the seizure of a significant weapons cache. Over the past month, CTD forces conducted 366 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in multiple cities and districts, targeting terrorist networks and enhancing provincial security.

Widespread Operations Across Key Districts

The operations were executed in a coordinated manner across various regions of Punjab, including major urban centers and rural areas. The districts involved in these security sweeps were Lahore, Kasur, Jhelum, Chakwal, Okara, Khanewal, Rawalpindi, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Rajanpur, Sialkot, Jhang, Attock, Sahiwal, and Faisalabad. This extensive geographic coverage underscores the CTD's commitment to addressing terrorist threats throughout the province.

High-Risk Arrests and Seizures

Among the arrests, two high-risk terrorists affiliated with the extremist group Fitna al-Khawarij were apprehended in Faisalabad and Jhelum. During the raids, authorities recovered explosive materials linked to these individuals, highlighting the operational focus on dismantling active terrorist cells. The seized items included a substantial arsenal of weapons and explosives, such as improvised explosive device (IED) bombs, five detonators, 34 safety fuses, 61 feet of wiring, along with pamphlets and cash, which are believed to be used for funding terrorist activities.

Ongoing Efforts to Combat Terrorism

A CTD spokesperson emphasized that these operations are part of continuous efforts to eliminate terrorism and ensure the safety and security of Punjab's residents. The department's proactive approach involves leveraging intelligence to conduct precise raids, aiming to disrupt terrorist networks before they can execute attacks. This month-long initiative reflects a broader strategy to maintain law and order and protect citizens from extremist threats.

The successful outcomes of these operations demonstrate the CTD's effectiveness in counter-terrorism measures, contributing to a more secure environment in Punjab. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to sustaining such efforts, with plans for further operations to address any emerging threats and uphold peace in the region.
