In a significant move to promote environmental sustainability, Faisalabad Division will observe 'Earth Hour' today, Saturday, March 28, following directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. This initiative aligns with province-wide efforts to raise awareness about energy conservation and environmental protection.

Energy Conservation Efforts in Faisalabad

During Earth Hour, non-essential lights across Faisalabad Division will be switched off from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar emphasized the importance of this collective action, stating that it is crucial for providing a safe and clean environment for future generations.

He highlighted that the primary purpose of observing Earth Hour is to educate the public on the efficient and prudent use of energy resources. Anwar made a strong appeal to citizens, urging them to actively participate by turning off lights during the designated hour to contribute to environmental protection and energy-saving initiatives.

GCU Faisalabad's Academic Achievement

In a separate development, Government College University (GCU) Faisalabad has achieved a notable milestone in the international academic arena. Five of its subjects secured significant positions in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, reflecting the university's growing impact in research, teaching, and global academic engagement as a public sector institution.

Subject Rankings Details

According to the latest QS rankings, GCU Faisalabad's subjects performed as follows:

  • Agriculture was placed in the 301–350 category globally.
  • Pharmacy ranked in the 351–400 bracket.
  • Chemistry and Mathematics were positioned in the 451–500 range.
  • Biology secured a global ranking between 601–650.

The QS Subject Rankings are determined based on key performance indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations, and international research collaborations. These rankings are widely regarded as a credible benchmark for evaluating universities worldwide.
