Punjab Home Department Unveils Extensive Security Framework for Youm-e-Shahadat of Hazrat Ali (RA)
The Punjab Home Department has released a comprehensive set of security guidelines for the observance of Youm-e-Shahadat of Hazrat Ali (RA), scheduled for 21st Ramazan, corresponding to Wednesday, March 11, 2026. This occasion will be marked with religious devotion and respect across the country, necessitating robust security measures to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
Enhanced Security Measures for Religious Events
According to the official directive, special security arrangements will be implemented for all processions, majalis, and religious gatherings planned for the day. Authorities have mandated foolproof security at mosques, imambargahs, religious worship places, and shrines throughout Punjab. Additional security personnel will be deployed as needed to bolster protection and monitor activities closely.
Strict monitoring will be enforced to prevent any objectionable or provocative speeches that could incite sectarian tensions, aligning with efforts to promote harmony. A zero-tolerance policy will be applied against the display of firearms and violations of the Punjab Sound System (Regulation) Act, 2015, to curb potential disturbances.
Aerial Surveillance and Infrastructure Protection
Aerial surveillance of major processions will be conducted using quadcopters, allowing authorities to monitor security arrangements and the deployment of personnel in real-time. Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to ensure the safety of procession routes, with particular attention to protecting key infrastructure such as electricity transmission lines and gas pipelines from any threats or disruptions.
Security measures at entry and exit points of cities across Punjab will be tightened, with strict checking procedures in place to screen individuals and vehicles. Special arrangements have also been ordered for the protection of prominent religious and political leaders, ensuring their safety during the events.
High Alert for Emergency Services
Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, and the Health Department have been placed on high alert to respond promptly to any emergencies. District Emergency Boards have been directed to convene immediate meetings and fully activate district-level rescue plans, ensuring preparedness for any contingencies.
Authorities have emphasized the need to ensure the availability of fire brigades, bomb disposal squads, ambulances, uninterrupted electricity supply, and medical staff throughout the day. Security personnel must remain on duty until all processions and gatherings are peacefully dispersed, with particular focus on the 21st Ramazan Zuljanah procession in Lahore, which is considered one of the city’s major religious events.
Implementation and Oversight
The Home Department has instructed commissioners, deputy commissioners, police chiefs, and other senior officials across Punjab to ensure the full implementation of the security plan. This coordinated effort aims to maintain law and order throughout the province, safeguarding the sanctity of the religious observance while preventing any untoward incidents.
