Former senator and Lieutenant General (retd) Abdul Qayyum has secured a second consecutive three-year term as president of the Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society (PESS) after being re-elected unopposed. The decision was reached unanimously during the society’s 65th General Council meeting held in Rawalpindi, which saw participation from senior retired officers of the Pakistan Army, Navy, and Air Force, alongside office-bearers representing ex-servicemen from across the country.
PESS Role and Representation
PESS functions as a representative organization dedicated to the welfare and interests of retired members of Pakistan’s armed forces. The society addresses issues affecting ex-servicemen and advocates for their rights and benefits.
Military and Civilian Career Highlights
Throughout his military career, Lt Gen (retd) Qayyum held several key command and staff appointments, including serving as military secretary to two former prime ministers. After retiring from the army, he led two major state-owned industrial organizations: Pakistan Ordnance Factories and Pakistan Steel Mills. He also served as chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Defence Production, where he oversaw parliamentary scrutiny of matters related to the country’s defence manufacturing sector.
