An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad on Monday upheld the arrest warrants for Sohail Afridi in a case pertaining to the killing of a police officer during a protest organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on October 4, 2024. The court directed law enforcement authorities to arrest Afridi and produce him before the court.
Court Proceedings
The ATC, presided over by Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra, also declared former opposition leader Omar Ayub, Amir Mughal, Hafeezur Rehman, and other accused as proclaimed offenders due to their persistent absence from the proceedings. During the hearing, PTI leader Azam Swati appeared before the court.
Arrest Warrants Maintained
Noting Afridi's repeated failure to appear, the court maintained his arrest warrants and instructed law enforcement agencies to ensure his arrest and production before the court. The case stems from the violent protests that erupted on October 4, 2024, resulting in the death of a police officer.
