Child kidnapping remains a growing crisis in Pakistan, instilling fear and insecurity among families nationwide. Hamraz Murad of Balgater, in a letter to the editor, highlighted that children are among the most vulnerable members of society and deserve protection, safety, and care. However, incidents of child abduction continue to occur across the country, endangering children’s lives and leaving lasting emotional trauma on parents and communities.
Abductions for Trafficking and Forced Labour
Reports indicate that many children are abducted for purposes including trafficking, forced labour, illegal adoption, organised begging, and other criminal activities. Every kidnapping represents a violation of a child’s basic rights and a failure to ensure public safety. The recent case involving the recovery of an abducted child in Karachi has once again highlighted the urgency of this issue.
Need for Preventive Measures
While law enforcement agencies deserve credit for successful recoveries, preventive measures are equally important. The government should strengthen child protection systems, improve surveillance in public places, expand missing-child alert programmes, and establish specialised units to investigate crimes against children. Parents and schools should also educate children about personal safety and the dangers of strangers.
Call for Immediate Action
A society that cannot protect its children cannot secure its future. Immediate action is needed to ensure that every child can grow up in safety and dignity. The Attock administration has also vowed zero tolerance against the sale of illegal medicines, reflecting broader concerns about public safety.
