On 7th Muharram, District Police Officer (DPO) Tasawur Iqbal of Vehari conducted a visit to the routes of various Muharram processions in Mailsi Circle, including those in Darohr Wahan and Abbas Nagar Matro, to personally review the security arrangements in place.
DPO Engages with Procession Organisers
During the visit, DPO Tasawur Iqbal met with the organisers of the processions, who expressed their satisfaction with the security measures implemented by the police. They assured the DPO of their full cooperation with law enforcement agencies throughout the observance of Muharram.
According to a police spokesperson, the DPO emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and security during the sacred month, directing all personnel to remain vigilant and proactive.
Mock Exercise Conducted in Jallah Jeem
On the special directives of DPO Tasawur Iqbal, a mock exercise was conducted in Jallah Jeem, falling under the jurisdiction of Sadr Mailsi police station. The drill aimed to assess the preparedness of law enforcement agencies for any emergency situation that may arise during Muharram.
The exercise simulated a scenario involving the presence of suspicious individuals, testing the response coordination among multiple agencies. Participating units included the police, Elite Force, Special Branch, Security Branch, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Bomb Disposal Squad, Civil Defence, and Rescue 1122.
Agencies Demonstrate Coordination
The mock drill showcased the seamless collaboration between different law enforcement and emergency response teams. Officials noted that such exercises are crucial to ensure quick and effective action in real-time emergencies.
DPO Tasawur Iqbal stated, 'All available resources are being utilised to ensure inter-sect harmony, peaceful observance of Muharram, and the protection of lives and property. Law enforcement agencies remain fully prepared to deal with any emergency situation.'
Broader Security Context
The visit and mock exercise come amid heightened security across Punjab during Muharram, with police and other agencies on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents. The Vehari police have deployed additional personnel at sensitive locations and are conducting regular patrols.
In a separate incident, three suspected robbers were killed in a shootout with the CCD police in Chiniot, highlighting the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the region.
