The federal budget for fiscal year 2026-2027 will be presented on June 10, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed on Wednesday. Initially, the government had planned to present the budget on June 5. According to official sources, the June 5 parliamentary session will proceed as scheduled, providing a platform for both the government and the opposition to debate the budget.
Finance Minister Confirms Date
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb also stated on Wednesday that the federal budget for fiscal year 2026-27 will be presented on June 10. The government has finalized efforts to build consensus among allies on the proposals. Speaking to a private news channel, Aurangzeb said discussions with coalition partners were positive, with another meeting scheduled by the end of this week.
Coordination with IMF
The finance minister reiterated the need to move forward in coordination with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), coalition partners, and other stakeholders. He emphasized improving tax collection through enforcement and widening the tax net. “Efforts are underway to ensure no new taxes are imposed,” he added.
Reasons for Delay
The confirmation comes after reports emerged that the budget faced delays due to challenges in convincing provinces to align their higher development allocations with national priorities and the inability to finalize budgetary figures with the IMF. Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister announced a protest against the IMF-dictated budget outside Parliament.
