Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday called for collective efforts to uphold the supremacy of the Constitution, strengthen the rule of law, and promote public welfare. In her message on International Day of Parliamentarism, she emphasized that a vibrant parliamentary system is indispensable for a stable, prosperous, and progressive Pakistan.
Chief Minister Felicitates Democratic Forces
Maryam Nawaz felicitated all democratic forces on the occasion, stating that the day serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding people’s rights and preserving parliamentary traditions. She said the supremacy of Parliament, adherence to the Constitution, and the promotion of democratic values are essential prerequisites for the country’s development and institutional stability.
Parliamentary System as an Effective Mechanism
The chief minister added that a parliamentary system remains the most effective mechanism for addressing public issues and ensuring that citizens' voices are reflected in the decision-making process. She noted that legislation aimed at protecting human rights and ensuring the welfare of the people constitutes the fundamental objective of a democratic system.
Maryam Nawaz observed that Parliament is not merely a law-making institution but a credible forum that shapes the nation’s collective vision, wisdom, and future direction.
Inclusive Governance and Youth Representation
Highlighting the importance of inclusive governance, the chief minister said meaningful representation of all segments of society, particularly women and young people, further strengthens democratic institutions and enhances the effectiveness of the parliamentary system. She affirmed that the PML-N firmly believes in constitutional supremacy, the strengthening of democracy, and transparent governance.
Punjab Government's Commitment
The CM said the Punjab government, under the leadership of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, would continue its efforts to promote good governance, effective legislation, and people-centric policies for the welfare and prosperity of the province.
