Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa finalized on Wednesday the formation of the country’s first parliament in the post-Assad era, with authorities announcing that the legislature will hold its inaugural session on July 6.
Final Appointments Include Women and Former Prisoners
Of the last 70 lawmakers appointed, 15 are women and 13 were previously held in prison under toppled president Bashar Assad. The other members, comprising two-thirds of the legislature, were selected by electoral committees.
Transition to New Governance
This development marks a significant step in Syria's political transition following the fall of the Assad regime. The new parliament is expected to address key legislative and governance issues as the country moves toward stability.
