KARACHI: A video circulating on social media featuring a female police officer making allegations related to an ongoing investigation at Eidgah police station has prompted senior police authorities to order an inquiry into the matter.
Background of the Allegations
According to details, complaints regarding the investigation of FIR No. 91/26 registered at Eidgah police station, along with allegations levelled by female police officer Rubina Shaheen of Napier police station, surfaced through a viral video on social media. In the video, the officer alleged misconduct and appealed to senior police officials for protection and support. She further claimed that a suspect currently on judicial remand was being provided special protocol and facilities at the police station.
Inquiry Ordered by Senior Officials
Taking immediate notice of the viral video, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi, Azad Khan, directed the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) south to conduct a fact-based inquiry and submit a detailed report on the matter. Meanwhile, the DIG south has also sought a comprehensive inquiry from the SSP investigation regarding the complaints and allegations linked to the investigation of the FIR.
Scope of the Investigation
The DIG south instructed investigators to examine all aspects of the case, including the investigation process, the role of the officers concerned, and the claims circulating on social media, before submitting a detailed report. Police sources said the case involves a non-Muslim boy and girl who allegedly eloped and got married. Further action will be taken in accordance with the law and departmental regulations after the inquiry report is submitted and reviewed.
