Law enforcement agencies conducted a raid at the residence of Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) leader Mehran Arshad Khawaja in Dadyal tehsil of Mirpur district, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), recovering a drone, weapons, and other suspicious items, officials said.
Operation Details
According to authorities, the operation was launched on reports of suspected activities linked to the premises. During the raid, an employee of the house, identified as Shahid Aslam, was taken into custody for questioning. Officials stated that the recovered items included a drone, a 12-bore shotgun, a pistol, and a police helmet reportedly snatched from Islamabad Police. Investigators said further material found at the site is being examined.
Employee Allegations
In his statement, the detained employee alleged that two ambulances were used to transport equipment ahead of a sit-in protest, claiming that weapons and other materials were moved to Muzaffarabad in the same vehicles. He also made further allegations regarding firearms, ammunition, cash transfers, and the presence of individuals linked to criminal networks during protest activities.
Meanwhile, authorities have said they are investigating all claims as part of a broader inquiry into the matter.
Reward Announced
Separately, the AJK government has announced a Rs10 million reward for information leading to the arrest of four wanted JAAC leaders, including Mehran Arshad Khawaja, according to an official notification. The identity of informants, the government said, will be kept strictly confidential.
