Disgraced former glam rock singer Gary Glitter, 82, whose real name is Paul Gadd, has been charged with four additional historic sexual offences involving a girl under the age of 13, British prosecutors confirmed. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorised one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14, alleged to have occurred between 1978 and 1981 at a residential address in Kensington, west London.
Allegations and Investigation
The allegations were made by a woman who reported the incidents to police in January 2025. Following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police, the CPS reviewed the evidence. Bethan David, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, stated: “The CPS has carefully reviewed the evidence before concluding that there is a realistic prospect of conviction and that bringing the case is in the public interest.” She emphasized that criminal proceedings are now active and that Gadd is entitled to a fair trial.
Current Prison Status
Gadd is currently serving a 16-year prison sentence after being convicted in 2015 of attempted rape, unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13, and multiple indecent assaults involving three schoolgirls. He was released on licence in February 2023 but was recalled to prison the following month for breaching his licence conditions. His latest bid for parole was refused in 2025.
The Metropolitan Police said officers interviewed Gadd in prison in July 2025 before submitting a file of evidence to the CPS for consideration.
Court Appearance and Background
Gadd is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court on August 5, 2026, to face the new charges. Once one of Britain's biggest glam rock stars with hits including “Rock and Roll Part 2” and “I'm the Leader of the Gang (I Am),” his career collapsed following a series of convictions for child sexual abuse offences. The latest charges add to his long history of criminal proceedings involving historic allegations.
