The Secondary School Teachers’ (SST) Welfare Association has warned of province-wide protests if the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government fails to issue long-awaited promotion notifications for teachers, saying prolonged delays have deprived many educators of career advancement.
Statement by SST Welfare Association President
In a statement issued on Wednesday, SST Welfare Association Lower Dir President Malik Imran alleged that the Elementary and Secondary Education Department had failed to convene Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings regularly, leaving many teachers awaiting promotion for nearly two years. He claimed that some had even retired before receiving their promotions.
DPC Meeting Held but Notifications Pending
Mr Imran said the DPC for the promotion of Secondary School Teachers to the posts of Subject Specialist (SS) and Headmaster (HM) was held on March 30, 2026, but the approved promotions have yet to be formally notified. He urged the provincial government and the Elementary and Secondary Education Department to issue the pending notifications without further delay and address the concerns of teachers awaiting promotion.
Deadline and Protest Plans
Mr Imran said the association had earlier set June 30 as the deadline for issuing the notification. He warned that if the matter remained unresolved, SST teachers from across the province would stage a sit-in outside the Directorate of Elementary and Secondary Education on July 6. He added that the protesters would also block the Grand Trunk Road and continue their demonstration until the notification was issued.
Appeal for Dialogue
The association appealed to the government to resolve the issue through dialogue and ensure that eligible teachers receive promotions in accordance with the applicable service rules.
