Fourth BLA Terrorist Identified in Karachi Counter-Terrorism Operation
Authorities have officially identified a fourth terrorist killed during a significant encounter last month between the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and operatives of the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) in Karachi's Shah Latif Town. The deceased has been named as Suhail Baloch, also known as Gark Baloch, who served as a commander within the BLA's notorious "Fatah Squad" operating in the Bolan area, according to a detailed statement from the CTD Sindh spokesperson.
Profile of a Notorious Terrorist Commander
Suhail Baloch was a high-value target with a long history of violent activities. The CTD spokesperson confirmed his involvement in multiple terrorist attacks that resulted in the deaths of more than 50 security personnel and civilians. His criminal portfolio includes direct responsibility for the assassination of Panjgur Deputy Commissioner Zakir Baloch on March 12, 2024. Furthermore, he was accused of orchestrating a major terrorist plot by dispatching five suicide bombers to carry out an attack on the Jaffar Express train on March 11, 2025, in which the attackers participated.
Extensive Terrorist Network and Activities
According to CTD investigations, Suhail Baloch's terrorist career began when he joined the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) in 2022. He later transitioned to the more prominent and banned BLA, where he ascended to the role of a Fatah Squad commander, continuing his involvement in various terrorist operations. The spokesperson revealed that he maintained direct communication links with senior BLA commanders, including Rehman Gul, Dr. Mukhwa, and Mullah Amin, indicating his seniority within the organization's hierarchy.
His activities extended beyond direct attacks to include:
- Blocking major highways at strategic locations to disrupt transportation and commerce.
- Engaging in the looting and intimidation of civilians to fund and spread terror.
- Participating in a broad spectrum of other terrorist acts that destabilized regional security.
Due to the severity and frequency of his crimes, security forces had been actively pursuing him for an extended period, marking him as a long-wanted fugitive.
The February Encounter and Ongoing Investigations
The fatal encounter occurred on February 17 in Shah Latif Town, where CTD personnel engaged a cell of terrorists affiliated with the banned BLA. This operation is part of a broader counter-terrorism strategy aimed at dismantling militant networks in urban and rural areas. The BLA, designated as a terrorist organization by the Pakistani state, is accused of waging an armed insurgency, often referred to as "Fitna al-Hindustan" in certain circles, primarily in Balochistan. Authorities assert that the group targets:
- Security forces to undermine state authority.
- Critical infrastructure to cripple economic and social stability.
- Civilians to create widespread fear and chaos.
Officials further allege that the BLA operates with external support aimed at destabilizing Pakistan's sovereignty and peace.
Post-Operation Measures and Justice Pursuit
In the aftermath of this successful operation, the CTD has formed specialized teams with a clear mandate: to apprehend Suhail Baloch's handlers, associates, and all facilitators connected to his terrorist network. The spokesperson emphasized that these individuals will soon be brought to justice, underscoring the government's unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism and holding all perpetrators accountable. This identification marks a critical step in ongoing efforts to enhance national security and protect citizens from militant threats.
