Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), issued a significant statement on Monday addressing the ongoing political situation. He emphasized that PTI workers were present on the streets without any formal protest call from the party's leadership. This clarification comes as opposition lawmakers continue their peaceful sit-in outside Parliament House, demanding proper medical treatment for the jailed PTI founder, Imran Khan, under the supervision of his trusted doctors.
Peaceful Sit-In and Party Strategy
According to Chief Minister Afridi, the PTI's strategy is clear and focused: the party aims to limit its protest activities to the parliamentary arena. He highlighted that lawmakers, led by prominent figures such as Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas, are conducting a sit-in in front of Parliament House. "Despite several parliamentarians being stopped, the sit-in continues, and no official protest call has been issued," Afridi stated. He pointed out that the protest has remained civilized and constitutional, with not even a single flowerpot damaged, proving its lawful nature.
Afridi issued a stern warning, asserting that if any disruptive elements attempt to infiltrate the protesters to create chaos, the responsibility would rest squarely with the government. He stressed that the PTI is currently navigating a difficult phase due to the unjust incarceration of Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi. The Chief Minister made it clear that any decisions regarding protests or future strategies will be taken exclusively by Imran Khan's nominated leadership. "When an official call is given, the public response will be such that no force will be able to stop it," he declared. Opposition Alliance's Continued Sit-In
Meanwhile, an opposition parties' alliance, known as the TTAP, announced on Monday that it would persist with its sit-in at Parliament House until its demands are met. Following a meeting, PTI leader Asad Qaiser confirmed that consultations are ongoing regarding the next course of action. "Our demand is that the PTI founder's personal physician be allowed to meet him," Qaiser stated, highlighting the alliance's unwavering stance.
After this decision, the sit-in outside Parliament resumed, with parliamentarians chanting slogans at the main gate. Earlier, during a consultative meeting, members expressed serious concerns over a propaganda campaign on social media and questions raised by Imran Khan's sisters. Some members demanded clarity on whether the party would be led by Imran's sister Aleema Khan and the PTI founder's family or by the political committee, indicating internal discussions about leadership and direction.
