PPP Leader Nisar Khuhro Firmly Opposes Creation of New Province in Sindh
Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, the President of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh, has declared that the party has effectively thwarted any conspiracy against the unity of Sindh by securing the passage of a resolution in the provincial assembly. He emphasized that as long as the PPP maintains a majority in the assembly, the formation of a new province within Sindh will be impossible.
Constitutional Framework and Political Stance
Addressing office bearers and workers in Mirokhan, Qambar Shahdadkot district, Khuhro outlined the constitutional process for creating new provinces. He stated that according to the constitution, a resolution must be approved by a two-thirds majority in the relevant provincial assembly. As long as such a resolution is not passed, no new province can be established. He criticized MQM Pakistan, suggesting that their statements on this issue are a misguided attempt to regain lost popularity, and labeled the demand for a new province as a conspiracy to foster hatred among the people of Sindh, who he said reject linguistic and sectarian divisions.
RBOD-II Project: Delays and Financial Concerns
Khuhro also addressed the stalled RBOD-II project, revealing that after three revisions, its cost has escalated to 62 billion rupees. Despite an expenditure of 40 billion rupees, work remains halted. He noted that the Secretary of the Irrigation Department has deemed the project non-feasible and provided a new estimate of 200 billion rupees to restart it. However, with over 5 billion rupees available for RBOD-II, the Public Accounts Committee has directed the Irrigation Department to commence work. Appointing a consultant is mandatory, and the PAC has instructed the Chief Secretary of Sindh to do so, emphasizing the project's critical importance for the region.
Other Key Announcements and Demands
In other matters, Khuhro announced that the PPP will hold prayer ceremonies at the district level on April 4th to mark the 47th death anniversary of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, citing financial savings. He praised Bhutto for making Pakistan a nuclear power and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for contributing missile technology, which he said deters external threats.
Regarding employment, Khuhro mentioned that the Sindh government has resumed publishing job advertisements through the Sindh Jobs Portal after a court stay order was lifted, delaying recruitment due to MQM Pakistan's legal challenges. He assured that jobs will be awarded based on merit after tests.
Khuhro also made demands to the federal government, urging immediate construction of the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway and inclusion of the Karachi Circular Railway project in CPEC to boost infrastructure development.
