Sindh commemorates the 78th anniversary of Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro—twice Premier of Sindh before Partition, a man of high principle, a social reformer, and a steadfast promoter of religious harmony. He never bowed before the forces of intolerance, ignorance, darkness, backwardness, tyranny, and injustice. Instead, he confronted them with strong determination, political acumen, moral courage, consistency, steadfastness, and intrepidity.
Martyrdom in Shikarpur
It was precisely for this reason that he was martyred in 1943 in his hometown Shikarpur—by the very enemies of peaceful coexistence, religious harmony, and fraternity—while on his way home by horse cart. He worked tirelessly and ceaselessly for the welfare of the people of his province without discrimination, out of sheer spirit of service, toiling day and night for the well-being of the marginalised on a priority basis.
A Politician of High Principle
He was nothing like the seasoned and traditional politicians who place self-vested interests above the noble ideals and interests of the general public. His labour of love, his laudable and sincere efforts, and his commendable services for the betterment of Sindh’s people will always be remembered in the annals of history. His true followers and political heirs continue to wage the struggle for the survival of future generations against fanatics and extremist elements, contributing significantly to social service by mitigating the sufferings and sorrows of the people.
Inspiration for Future Generations
This immortal soul of Sindh remains a great source of inspiration for them. They have vowed and renewed their pledge to follow in his footsteps—in letter and spirit—keeping alive the spirit of service and public welfare. He chose death over the surrender of his lofty and sublime ideals to forces inimical to, and devoid of, human values. He will always be remembered for the outstanding and splendid role he played, the services he rendered, and for attaining immortality through martyrdom at the hands of the misguided.
Call for Politicians of His Stature
Following in his footsteps in their truest sense is the finest tribute we can pay him. This country desperately needs politicians of his stature—towering figures like Shaheed Allah Bux Soomro—to rid it of extremist elements and usher in a new era of public welfare.
