GILGIT - Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari addressed an election rally at the Aga Khan Polo Ground in Gilgit on Friday. This was the last rally of the 2026 election campaign for Gilgit-Baltistan. Polling will be held on Sunday, June 7.
Three Core Principles
Bilawal stated that the PPP is working on three principles: providing the people of GB the right to property, for which the party has struggled for three generations, the right to self-rule, and the right to employment. Addressing the crowd, he urged them to convey these principles to the people and come out in large numbers on June 7 to vote for the PPP.
Property Rights Achieved
He highlighted that ownership rights have been granted through legislation presented by Amjad Advocate and passed in the GB assembly. An area of 28,000 square kilometers is now the property of the people of GB. This land has been divided into cultivable and non-cultivable areas, both to be given in ownership to the people. Implementation must now follow, and only the PPP can ensure this, making a PPP government necessary.
The people of Shigar will benefit the most, followed by Skardu and the entire GB. Bilawal urged voters to make the PPP successful so they can practically receive ownership rights.
Historical Contributions
Bilawal recalled that Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto abolished the Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR) and provided subsidies. Shaheed Bibi (Benazir Bhutto) made politics possible in GB, enabling all parties to operate there. He asserted that Pakistan's defense strength comes from Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's gift of the atomic bomb, announced from Gilgit-Baltistan's soil. Missile technology was gifted by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. Both continue to defend Pakistan from Garhi Khuda Bakhsh.
Infrastructure and Peace
Bilawal noted that the Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline and CPEC were provided by President Asif Ali Zardari. Foreign military bases in Pakistan were closed by President Zardari, ensuring Pakistan's safety. He prayed for the success of peace efforts by the Field Marshal to bring economic relief to the people.
Employment and Energy
Bilawal emphasized that the PPP has struggled for employment rights for three generations. During Quaid-e-Awam's era, farmers, laborers, and youth became masters of their destiny. The last time youth in GB got employment was during the PPP government. He promised to create jobs by utilizing local resources, unlocking energy generation potential of 50,000 MW of electricity from GB, enough to meet Pakistan's entire needs.
