A convict, who was brought to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) in Rawalpindi from Adiala Jail for medical treatment, escaped from the hospital premises. The incident prompted the registration of a case at the Waris Khan Police Station.
Details of the Escape
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the convict's son, identified as Adnan, along with an unidentified individual, wheeled the prisoner out of the ward, placed him in a vehicle, and fled the scene. The police personnel on duty, ASI Imran Ahmed and Constable Qamar Ali, have also been named in the case for their alleged negligence.
The escaped prisoner has been identified as Jamil, who was serving a 9-year sentence in a drug recovery and smuggling case. The court had also imposed a fine of Rs180,000 on him. Jamil had been shifted to BBH from Adiala Jail for medical treatment.
Police Response
Following the escape, a case was registered at Waris Khan Police Station, and a search operation has been launched to apprehend the escaped convict and his facilitators. The police are investigating the role of the duty personnel and reviewing hospital security footage to track the escape route.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, two proclaimed offenders (POs) were arrested, and stolen gold and cash worth over Rs4.3 million were recovered. The police continue their efforts to maintain law and order in the region.
