Fake Security Checking Officer Arrested in Major Operation
Fake Security Officer Arrested in Crackdown

In a significant breakthrough, Islamabad police have arrested a man who was impersonating a security checking officer. The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Rashid Mehmood, was apprehended during a routine patrol in the G-9 sector. According to police officials, Mehmood had been conducting fake security checks at various locations, including markets and residential areas, for the past three months.

Details of the Arrest

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations, Dr. Syed Mustafa Tanweer, stated that the arrest was made after several citizens reported suspicious behavior. The suspect would approach people, claim to be a security officer, and demand to check their bags and vehicles. He often asked for identification documents and would note down personal information, allegedly for security purposes.

During the arrest, police recovered a fake identity card, a counterfeit security department badge, a flashlight, and a notebook containing personal details of dozens of individuals. The SSP added that the suspect had no prior criminal record but confessed to the impersonation during interrogation. He admitted to targeting areas with high foot traffic, such as shopping centers and bus stops.

Modus Operandi

Mehmood would dress in a uniform resembling that of the security forces and carry a clipboard to appear official. He would stop people randomly, ask for their CNICs, and conduct mock checks. In some cases, he would demand money for "security clearance," though most victims did not pay. The primary motive appears to be collecting personal data, possibly for fraudulent activities.

Police have urged citizens to verify the identity of any individual claiming to be a security officer. They advised that genuine officers always carry official identification and are accompanied by uniformed personnel. Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to the nearest police station or via the helpline 15.

Legal Proceedings

The suspect has been booked under sections 419 (cheating by personation) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Pakistan Penal Code. He is also charged with possessing a fake identity card. The police are investigating whether he was part of a larger network. A court has remanded him to police custody for further interrogation.

This incident highlights the need for increased public awareness about such scams. Authorities recommend that people ask for official ID and verify through official channels before complying with any requests from self-proclaimed security personnel.
