Israeli authorities announced on Thursday their decision to release a Palestinian man who sustained serious injuries during an Israeli military operation more than two weeks ago. The 29-year-old Qusai Rayyan was shot on April 15 during an Israeli raid in the Salfit Governorate, located in the northwestern part of the occupied West Bank.
Critical Condition and Medical Treatment
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Detainees' and Ex-Detainees Affairs, Rayyan has undergone multiple surgical procedures at Beilinson Hospital in northern Israel. However, he remains unconscious and his medical condition continues to deteriorate, as reported by the Palestinian Wafa news agency.
Rising Casualties in the West Bank
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has documented that at least 40 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli settlers or soldiers in the occupied West Bank since the beginning of this year. Israeli forces conduct daily and nightly raids across the West Bank, citing security concerns, during which they arrest individuals or search homes of those allegedly involved in political or militant activities.
Since October 2023, security forces have continued to hold the bodies of dozens of Palestinians killed during such raids. The number of detainees who have died while in Israeli custody has exceeded 100 during the same period. Among these, only 84 have been publicly identified, including 50 detainees from Gaza.
